Slow Art Day 2011

Apr

11

It is time to slow down and smell the roses – or, in this case,  look at the art. Please join us at the Cummer for International Slow Art Day on Saturday, April 16th from 10:30 – 12:30 to view 5 pre-selected pieces of  art, then stay and enjoy lunch from 12:30-1:30 (your purchase off the menu) at the Tree Cup Cafe to enjoy open converstation about the art with fellow art lovers.

Did you know that the typical art viewers only spends about eight seconds in front of a work of art?  Slow Art Day is a global grassroots art celebration designed to inspire people to look at art for a longer period of time, seeing the work in its entirety. Looking often reveals details not registered by the viewer at first glance, elements that can bring a work of art to life.

Take 5 – 10 minutes each to look, really look at the follwing pieces of art:

Call Art Connections @ 899-6003 to dedicate your attendance.  See you on Saturday, April 16th!

This sounds delightful! Being with the art. My boyfriend and I have a mindfulness practice that we consciously step into. We notice so much more about not only the art that presents itself, but nature, people, weather, music…et al…

I salute your gift to our community that you are giving with this event. Our lives are so busy ad rushed, that taking time to be with the art, themselves and each other will be a blessing I know they will savor for a long tome to come.

I shall be sending good thoughts that day. I shall be participating the AIGA Student Portfolio review. I commit, to “BEING: with the portfolios and seeing all that I can.

Thank you for the encouraging words Florence. I wish you the best of luck on the portfolio review. You are correct that in this busy world of ours, it is difficult to take the time to really look, really listen, and really pay attention to what is around you.

What a delightful idea! I am definitely a “slow” art viewer, almost always preferring to skip openings and crowds for quieter times when I can be alone with the art. But this sounds like a great way to really contemplate the selected works.

I’ll be advertising the event on my blog & the blog’s Facebook page! ( http://artsyforager.wordpress.com )
